Thanks for Thanksgiving 2019
We arrived exhausted at the end of November: Thanksgiving 2019! The year has been extremely intense, lot of work and less space for us compared to the years in the Middle East. We’ve been delighted by our friends and former neighbors who invited us for dinner: they’ve been travelling the world for work, with all […]
Fantasy in Texas…
Thanks to Dave for suggesting us the Renaissance Festival: a huge event in Todd Mission, about 1 hour and a half from home. According to the organizers, each year over six hundred thousand people attend to the fest: my first concern when I hear these numbers is always: ‘how about the parking?’. Followed by other […]
Closing Time: the Remake!
This is a photo remake with some additional background of the famous comic ‘Closing Time’. In Marta’s original, the protagonist finds herself obstructing the closing activities of our preferred breakfast bar: her coffee mug is almost full however, too hot to drink. As the bar employees begin to send acoustic and visual signals such as […]
No fishing, only photos
Kelby’s photowalk 2019 in Galveston gifted us a great sunset in a pleasant Texan evening well worth the few miles. We met with the guys from BAPC (Bay Area Photo Club) and joined the stroll: Galveston knows how to entertain tourists and locals and we felt more on a vacation than just at the start […]
Monday Window
For the #MondayWindow fans, this picture taken in the beautiful Galveston while taking part to the Scott Kelby’s 2019 photo walk. I liked the contrast of the two buildings’ style while the incoming sunset painted a nice orange and blue palette. Taken with Canon 5d Mark III, 24-105 f/4. Post pro in Luminar3.
Beautiful Uglies
Graceless, ugly and horrible when looked too closely, so close that every detail is revealed. Sometimes it’s better to hold back, refrain from digging too much, enjoy the big picture. Bath in the radiant grace of the whole, behold from afar, position yourself beyond the misery of the tiny detail.
When you see a gator in your courtyard. Almost.
There’s a subtle and not negligible psychological difference between seeing a wild animal in a reserve, park or at the zoo and stumbling upon it while jogging down the street, a few meters from home. Now when the wild animal at issue is a rather ‘biting’ one such as this gator, one should at least […]
Recordman
Got some tickets for the Astros last week-end when the home team played Seattle in a very slow game ended 2-1 for Houston. We chose the Saturday game to leave the Sunday for home-relax: a pity because the very next day the score was 21 (!!) to 1. Anyway, below our lessons learned from our […]
Back to the Park – Cool Edits and new Software
We are back to the US after a vacation that was just too short. Early July in Italy was great and late July in Houston is incredibly mild, very pleasant especially in the evening. This won’t last and the triple digit will be back soon. Better I take the camera for a quick tour just […]
Beach of memories
Crossroad of people, stories, memories and lives. Promises made, plans set up in the sand, washed away by a wave, swepet out by the fate, erased by the time. All pictures: Fuji XT-2 , Fujinon 56mm f/1.2
Weekend Unknown
This is the last weekend before going back to Italy on vacation: for the next two days we have no plans whatsoever so I will challenge myself with an extreme street hunt. It will be street photography weekend: I do not know what the results will be but I will post the shots. Let’s get […]
First of June
This portrait opens the month of June with two cats (!!) posing for me! Shot with the X-T2 and a quick home setup with 1 off-camera flashlight: super easy and fast. Post pro in Luminar was a matter of a few minutes. Sometimes not having a lot of time helps increasing our efficiency. Only some […]
From the Ground
The 737 Max is still grounded since March this year: a huge mess that took the lives of more than 300 people. A tragedy I should say. The Boeing headquarter is 5 minutes walking distance from home and what strikes me the most of that huge building , since my first day here, are the […]
One
I like some of my pictures much more than others, regardless of what people say and beyond any objective technical analysis. ‘One’ is my 2019 preferred ‘creature’ so far, and is making me consider a black and white only photo project… Shot in Venice Beach with the Fuji X-T1 and 56mm f/1.2, the picture was […]
On the Light, again
On the Light, again. Another post inspired by the light, by its effect on the environment and ultimately on ourselves and our feelings and mood
Cheryl’s
Cheryl is a small restaurant in Fulton, a town close to Corpus Christi: somewhere Marta read that in the summer of 2017 when hurrican Harvey landed, Cheryl’s was one of the few structures that survived or at least, that was not wiped away. One year and a half after that disaster, Fulton and the surrounding […]
Shoot RAW!
I recently read an invite to shoot with purpose, to go beyond the technical aspect of the picture and capture what really matters. The concept is not new and always actual: it might take the shape of a contrast between our gear and our soul to eventually break free from fake constraints or have a […]
Los Angeles Contrasts
Photography trip to Venice beach, Hollywood and Santa Monica, capturing the contrasts between the rich and beautiful versus the poor and uglies
In the hood: Venice Beach
February trip to LA: we were based in Venice Beach. Literally a few meters from the legendary Muscle beach of Schwarzenegger and Ferrigno, the beach of Baywatch, the boardwalk and streets of American History X. All the basketball players in the world think at these courts whenever the word ‘playground’ is spelled. Here pros and […]
