We insisted on visiting the banks of the holy river Bagmati – we knew that Saroj, our guide, was a master at arranging unconventional itineraries. In the area around Lord Shiva’s Pashupatinath temple, life and death shake hands the indu way. The rituals are carried out most spontaneously – few tourists there – families, animals, everything is part of that spiritual Nepal that hit us in the stomach like a sucker punch, although we asked for it. Ultimately, this was one of the main reasons we chose Nepal. The visit to the river Bagmati deeply touched both Marta and me. Personally, it was one of the strongest experiences, along with the visit to the Buddhist temple of Buddhanath.
