Comedy Night at the Calder Vale – The dawn of a new project.
Comedy Night at the Calder Vale, Horbury. A pub upstairs room, a microphone, and a room full of English people doing what the English do best: laughing at themselves with great discipline and perfect timing.
I took my Fuji and documented it. The result is the first entry in a project I have been thinking about for a long time.
The English Way of Being — Seen from an Italian is a long-term documentary photography project inspired by Kate Fox’s Watching the English. As an Italian who has lived in Yorkshire for several years, I have started noticing things about English life that the English themselves no longer see. The queue. The pub ritual. The weather conversation that is never really about weather.
This project is my attempt to document it, with affection, curiosity, and the occasional sense of surprise!
A new website is coming soon. In the meantime, the project has begun.
